Manchester City Set to Pounce on Hapless West Ham United

It is not the best of times for the reigning English Premier League Champions Manchester City. They are currently trailing runaway league leader Liverpool by a whopping 25 points and to add salt to injury, they were recently suspended for two seasons by UEFA from UCL competition for breaching the Financial Fair play rules.

Against the backdrop of uncertainties surrounding the suspension and the noise it has generated, comes the rearranged premier league fixture against West Ham United which was initially fixed for Sunday last week. The game has been rescheduled to take place today on the 19th of February 2020 at the Etihad stadium by 7:30 PM.

What to expect from Manchester City Players

The mood from the player has been positive, with a lot of the players not getting distracted by the recent happening surrounding the club. Leroy Sane, Benjamin Mendy, and Aymeric Laporte are all back training with the main squad, with just Raheem Sterling out injured. The players would be itching to make a positive start to their premier league campaign that has seen some negative results over the past few months.

Manchester City got humbled by Tottenham 2-0 away in their last match and it was a bitter pill to swallow for the EPL reigning Champions. Recent results have not been too bad, with Aston Villa getting hammered 6-1 at Villa Park, drawing 2-2 at home to Crystal Palace and winning 1-0 against Sheffield United at home. Expect a very hungry and passionate City side tonight!

What to expect from West Ham United

It is so difficult to see West Ham avoiding a defeat against a wounded team like Manchester City. West Ham has been on the down slide in the past four premier league games. Drawing 1-1 at home to Everton, losing 4-1 against a very good Leicester City side, losing 2-0 at home to runaway leaders Liverpool and drawing 3-3 at home against Brighton in a game they were expected to win. They currently have some key players down with injuries.

Felipe Anderson is a doubt for tonight’s encounter, having just recovered from a back injury. Jack Wilshere has a Groin injury while their Russian Star Andril Yarmolenko has a tear in his abductor’s muscle. It will no doubt be an herculean task to grab a point from the game considering their poor run of form lately. They can however still spring a surprise as their manager David Moyes is an experienced tactician.

How the team may Line up

Predicting Pep Guardiola’s line up can be very difficult, as he has been known to spring to surprises lately. Ederson is however expected to keep his position between the stick, with Fernandinho, Otamendi, Walker, and Mendy making up the back line. Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, and David Silva will occupy the midfield, with Mahrez and Bernardo Silva operating the flanks. Sergio Aguero can be trusted to lead City’s attack. Pep can call on Jesus, Joao Cancelo, Laporte, and Phil Foden if needed.

For West Ham United, Lukasz Fabianski is the favorite in goal, with Angelo Ogbonna, Issa Diop, Aaron Cresswell, and Ryan Fredericks holding forth in defense. Veteran Mark Noble, Balbuena, Declan Rice will hold the midfield, while Michail Antonio, Tomas Soucek, Sebastien Haller, and Robert Snodgrass will lead West Ham attack. This game is remarkable in the sense that it may be the last homecoming for former City star, Pablo Zabaleta, who is adored by City fans and family.

Result Prediction

It is hard to see West ham escaping a defeat away to Manchester City. I see City grabbing all 3 points with a 4-0 victory. Kun Aguero most likely going to be on the score sheet to add to his 16 goals tally. It will be an exciting game to watch as City are known for their entertaining pattern of play.

Before They Were Famous – Top 10 Celebrity Lorry Drivers

Actors, athletes and mass murderers – it takes all sorts to drive lorries. With brief details of their involvement in the trade and subsequent celebrity, here is a countdown of the top 10 stars who worked as lorry drivers before they were famous, with varying degrees of success.

# 10 Chris Tarrant:

This radio and television presenter, best known for hosting the TV game show ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’, pursued a number of jobs before finding his feet in television. Tarrant’s former roles include long-distance lorry driver, security officer and schoolteacher.

# 9 Chris Eubank:

Chris Eubank is notable for being the only member of our list to have taken up lorry driving after he become famous. October 2003 saw a politically motivated Eubank descending on Whitehall in his personal HGV to protest against the war in Iraq. The former world middleweight champion boxer ended up being arrested for blocking the entrance gates to Downing Street, driving around Parliament Square sounding his horn, with a knife in his pocket, and reversing into a delivery van.

# 8 Rock Hudson:

Hudson was a popular American film and television actor and a romantic leading man in the 1950s and 1960s. During WW II, Hudson served as a Navy airplane mechanic and after the war he was a truck driver. His size and good looks got him into movies.

# 7 Chevy Chase:

Our number seven is an Emmy Award-winning American comedian, writer, and television and film actor. Before his breakthrough as a comedian, Chase worked as a truck driver, cab driver, motorcycle messenger, waiter, busboy, construction worker, audio engineer, produce manager in a supermarket, salesman in a wine store and theatre usher.

# 6 Long Distance Clara:

The only woman on our list and, unfortunately, fictional, juggernaut-driving Clara was the star of 80s children’s cartoon ‘Pigeon Street’. Some see Long Distance Clara as an unsung feminist icon – her marriage to chef Hugo demonstrated a refreshing reversal of gender stereotypes.

# 5 Charles Bronson:

Charles Bronson was an American actor of ‘tough guy’ roles who made his name starring in a number of major Hollywood flicks including ‘The Great Escape’ and ‘The Dirty Dozen’. Before becoming famous, Bronson was drafted into the army and was assigned to the Air Corps in 1943. He started as a truck driver and then trained as a pilot, winning awards for good service.

# 4 Richard Pryor:

Pryor was the first African American stand-up comedian to speak candidly to mixed audiences using the language and jokes of the black community. He worked in numerous jobs before finding fame, including truck driving and meatpacking.

# 3 Liam Neeson:

Liam Neeson is a movie star most well known for his role as Oskar Schindler in the 1993 blockbuster ‘Schindler’s List’. Irish-born Neeson once worked as a truck driver as well as a forklift operator for Guinness, an assistant architect and an amateur boxer.

# 2 Sean Connery:

This retired Scottish actor is best known for starring as James Bond in seven Bond films. Heart-throb Connery joined the Royal Navy after leaving school but was discharged on medical grounds. He went on to a succession of jobs, including lorry driver, labourer and lifeguard.

# 1 Elvis Presley:

The American singer, musician, actor and cultural icon took up truck driving as one of his jobs after graduation. The future ‘King’ drove a truck for the aptly named ‘Crown Electric Company’. Presley even took up wearing his hair longer with a ‘ducktail’ – the style of truck drivers at the time. A musician for whom a young Elvis Presley auditioned advised him to ‘Stick to driving a truck, because you’ll never make it as a singer’.

The Mass Murderer – Peter Sutcliffe:

Quite possibly the most evil and deranged presence in the history of lorry driving, the ‘Yorkshire Ripper’ is far too nasty to make it into our top 10. Between 1975 and 1984, this lorry driver and former gravedigger killed 13 women in a five-year reign of terror before being sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in jail. On his arrest, Sutcliffe claimed that God had told him to go out and kill prostitutes. A sad blemish on the good name of lorry driving.

Celebrities who were lorry drivers before they were famous – a heady mixture of the talented, the eccentric, the unpleasant and the downright brilliant. Who knows what magical creatures are sitting behind the wheels of our country’s lorries today?

Video Consumption During Quarantine

While there were lots of unprecedented circumstances that have developed in 2020, not everything has been negative. Global pandemics aside, there have actually been some interesting societal shifts that could bring growth and positive developments going forward.

Government officials and concerned friends and family urge a continued self-isolation at home to protect the health and function of our hospitals and people, and there has never been a better time to do that. Our access to information through the use of the internet has allowed most job functions, revenue streams and relationships to continue and sometimes even thrive in a physically isolated society. On top of that, these relationships and business opportunities have been leaning more heavily than ever on the use of video- whether it’s digital animation, social media marketing, or corporate video productions, people need to get their message out now more than ever.

Luckily, since people are relying on staying home and using screens and technology, video is the perfect medium to communicate directly to consumers. Even Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook believes video is a critical part of our future as he shifts his platform increasingly to video stories and video ads. According to Wyzowl in their annual State of Video Marketing Survey for 2020, 92% of marketers say video is an important part of their marketing strategy. This is up from 78% in 2015. This growth has a lot to do with 88% of marketers saying video marketing provides them with a positive ROI, or return on investment. That stat has grown from just 33% in 2015, which means both marketers and consumers are transitioning to video consumption to educate themselves on the market and communicate to consumers.

Jonathan Barnard, Head of Forecasting at Zenith, spoke up about his thoughts on this trend: «The consumption of online video is growing rapidly, and the average person will spend half as much time viewing online video as they spend viewing conventional television this year. This fast-expanding supply of audiences is fueling rapid growth in demand from advertisers, making online video the fastest-growing digital channel by advertising expenditure.»

This is great news for us and our clients as opportunities for well-produced video grows. There have been limited opportunities to produce live video content local to our home base in Richmond Virginia due to distancing requirements, however our clients have continued to demand online marketing and animation material. We have been able to find creative solutions for producing what our clients need, and that includes character animation, 3D rendering and modeling, remote interviews, and video editing from existing material. From our perspective, the need for a strong message communicated through moving images and audio has not decreased- it’s becoming the new standard in digital advertising.

Detectives Sloan and Falimoso – What If?

Detectives Sloan and Falimoso had just arrived at the 19th squad Detective bureau about 10:00 AM. The two streetwise and knowledgeable detectives had been hot on the trail of Tyrone «Kilo» Clay, one of the district’s most notorious dope dealers. It seems that «kilo» never dealt in anything under an ounce of cocaine, and had bragged recently to a 19th squad «associate» Count Wilson that all his ounces came off kilos of coke that he picked up in Tampa and body packed back to his stash house on Countryside Street.

«Kilo» would then break down the product to one ounce quantities, after he had cut the coke with calcium carbonate. «Kilo» would obtain the blocks of cut and then stretch a pair of panty hose and rub the block of the cut back and forth across the panty hose. The resultant powder looked like pure cocaine powder. In essence this gave «kilo» somewhere in the vicinity of four kilos rather than one.

«Kilo» then sold or fronted one ounce quantizes of the product to his partners who would distribute the devil’s urine after it had been cooked down into the scourge of American cities..Crack.

The Count, as Sloan and Falimoso referred to their «associate,»  tried to contact them last night but they were «out of pocket,» assisting the districts CAT or Criminal Apprehension Team track down a vile and vicious criminal who was wanted for a number of assaults on older ladies as they were waiting for the bus. These attacks usually took place in the early morning hours when many victims were on their way to the hospital area to labor as nurse’s aids, dietary or environmental services.

The majority of the victims were older and when interviewed by the «hot dog» Detectives stated that they would be unable to identify their attacker. This presented a dual problem to the two renound Detectives and, as usual, Falimoso had a plan. They would contact their faithful and loyal «associate», the Count, to see if he had any info that would be of use to the Detectives. Once that was done Falimoso was going to attempt a reverse line-up…more on that in another installment of the Detective Sloan and Falimoso saga. The two Detectives wanted to get this desperado before he really hurt one of the older victims. Until now the victims had only sustained scrapes and bruises but it was only a matter of time before someone would be seriously injured.

The Count came through.  He said that the slimey dog doing all the purse snatchings was a not-very-well-liked street dog who went by the name of «Grabber.» The reason no one liked him is because he had the body aroma of a bear in the zoo. Count said that this guy really stunk!! The Count also said that «Grabber» was a stone cold dope fiend and secured his crack from a dope house on Linton Street. Sloan and Falimoso were familiar with the dope house and were especially concerned because the occupant of the house was a female crack head and dealer who cooked down the ounces of stepped on coke she got from «kilo» Clay. Additionally, the two Detectives would see small children playing, unsupervised, in front of the dope house whilst their mother would be plying her trade. Sloan and Falimoso had called Family Services to report the unattended kids playing in the busy and crime ridden street. Family Services added this notification to their long list of at risk children.

Sloan and Falimoso were on their way to «kilos» stash house when the call for a house fire crackled over the police radio in their battered Dodge Detective car. Sloan and Falimoso looked at each other as they instantly recognized the address on Linton Street as the dope house where the small children lived.

Sloan, the driver immediately hit the lights and siren, hung a U-turn and headed to the Linton Street address. As they approached the area the Detectives could see a thick, black plume of smoke coming from the area.

When they arrived at the burning house Sloan threw the battered Dodge into a sliding stop, rapidly alighted from the slowly moving vehicle and ran to the front door of the residence, flying past two kids who were standing on the sidewalk. Detective Ian Sloan knew there was a third child, and he did not see him on the sidewalk. Sloan and Falimoso approach the front door of the house and used their jackets to cover their faces. They then tried to enter the inferno and were driven out by the superheated air and smoke. A firefighter, with the appropriate gear entered the building and soon emerged with a toddler in his arms. The small child was limp in the fireman’s arms and was rushed to a waiting life support ambulance. The child was tilted back, his small and dainty arms and legs hung limp. The child was whisked away to Saint Mary’s hospital where Sloan and Falimoso later learned that he was dead on arrival.

This bothered the two hardened Detectives, it bothered them a lot.

The CAT team had apprehended «Kilo» Clay and «grabber» who were placed on a seventy-two hour hold. The Detectives just couldn’t do anything else. They both went 10-7 and headed for Paddy’s Pig for a few brews. The two Detectives didn’t say much to each other or to the other cops and Detectives who came in after duty hours. Sloan and Falimoso left early, the mood at Paddy’s was somber.

Both Detectives went home, watched TV and began to play «what if.» Both Sloan and Falimoso didn’t get much sleep that night, every time they closed their eyes they saw the small and vulnerable toddler being brought out of the burning house.

Tomorrow is another day and the two hard charging Detectives would deal with the two slime balls that the CAT team had apprehended, «kilo» Clay and «grabber.» Both Detectives wanted to get back to work and immerse themselves in their cases, anything to get their mind off yesterday’s doom and gloom.

Stay tuned, more Sloan and Falimoso adventures to follow.

Nana What Was Technology Like When You Were 7

Nana what was technology like when you were 7?
Nana, what was technology like when you were 7? So asked my 6,7 and 8 year old grandchildren some recent years ago when my husband and I were invited to their respective schools to enjoy morning tea.

And afterwards they took us to their classrooms to proudly show off their current work. We were also asked to give them a little insight into what our school lives were like when we were their ages.

This opened up all sorts of amazing ‘stuff’ for them. Naturally they assumed that technology had been around forever. Ours, then was another world entirely.

One that would be alien to our grandchildren nowadays. I love the look of total incredulity on their young faces when we tell them that we had no TV, what, no TV, no phone, no computer, no iPod, no iPad?

Entertainment without Technology
We made our very own entertainment using our imaginations with whatever props we could find. Old sheets to make a tent with sticks to hold it up. A steel bucket with a plank of wood produced a terrific see-saw. To mention just a couple.

Nowadays I have an orchestra in my handbag, my Samsung Mobile phone, that I can’t live without. I also own an iPod, a bit outdated today, yet I love listening to all my favourite classical pieces carried around in my pocket!

Good Fun Without Technology
Cars were a luxury, for most people anyway. Apparently, my father was not a good candidate to drive one. As a result, he rode a bike and loved cycling, swimming, hiking up the mountains. And he took us all with him. We also went most places by train, a steam one.

My Dad fitted a little seat to the handlebars of his bike and another over the back wheel, because there were so many children in our family, he could carry two of us at a time. What fun we had.

How on earth did we live, never mind entertain ourselves without anything technical in our lives! We had a whopping good time though.

Innocence Intelligence And Knowledge
I love the innocence of my grandchildren, together with their intelligence all at the same time. And their confidence and knowledge of all things technical.

How happy we’d all be however, if children could experience another kind of freedom. Freedom to walk to school without an adult. Play happily on the street with all the kids in the neighbourhood.

School in Olden Days
Our childhoods were easy and most of us were unaware of what real stress was. So protected were we from grown-up worries, adult news, activities and fears.
We did have our own set of small fears.

There was no speaking up for yourself. As a result, we had to be quiet at all times and only speak when spoken to and then only to answer questions. Children should be seen but not heard, was the unbelievable motto of our day.

We got a smack on the hand with a ruler. Smacking was lawful in a lot of schools throughout the world at this time. It was meted out simply for an incorrect answer to a spelling, arithmetic or reading question. Par for the course at the time in most schools.

Coping With Stress
Did I say we had no stress? I seem to be contradictory in what I have said, because of course we did. At school, but somehow, we managed to cope most of the time on our own. Much better not to bring our parents into it.

Our children and grandchildren have had an easier and more enjoyable time at school. I marvel at the fun to be had especially in Primary years. Kids are listened to, have freedom of speech, and are not afraid to speak up for themselves. And along the way they also learn a sense of responsibility.

Technology In Bygone Days
We grandparents however, enjoyed our own happy days.
That was school, and «technology» for me and my husband at 7.

6 Siblings And Happy Memories
However, this technology question brought back a flood of childhood memories.

I am one of 7 children and while we didn’t have anything like the toys or clothes that children expect to own nowadays, we did have a very happy carefree time growing up.

And although my father was an accountant earning a good salary, it had to be shared with a family of 9. So, naturally we kids also had to share toys with each other.

As most families were pretty large in those days, we were all equal in the toy department, so we were more than happy to swap with our friends on our street.

Our clothes were always good quality because with 4 girls and 3 boys they all had to be «handed down», the eldest and youngest getting everything new! A good recycling practice, though no one thought of it that way at the time. But we never felt hard done by.

Music And Entertainment
Growing up without all this wonderful technology, we had to make our own entertainment. In our household we were encouraged to take piano lessons.

As we didn’t own a piano in the beginning, our elderly next door neighbours were very happy for my eldest brother (a very promising young classic pianist) to practice on their piano.

Another of our neighbours was a music teacher, so those of us who liked playing took our first lessons from her. Eventually we moved house and our parents bought our very own piano which was heaven.

My brother just took off and became a most gifted classical musician. I think I was the next serious pupil, though I never achieved his level. Nevertheless, I played on, loved it, and still do today.

Grandchildren And Music
One of our 4 grandchildren took piano lessons at school for many years. She was also very good and loved it. But because she was not going to make a career in music she had to give up her lessons to concentrate on her school work. However, it’s something she can fall back on at another time.

I’m also very happy to say that one of our grandsons started learning to play the bagpipes while still very young and now at 14 years old he plays beautifully with all the Scottish regalia.

Music is so important and I wish it was considered more in the school curriculum. Children need it for relaxation more than ever in my opinion.

I digress.

Next question from my grandchildren.

So, Nana what were summer holidays like when you were 7?

Ah, summer holidays.

Till next time!
