City Guide To Manchester, Including Manchester Hotels

Introduction

Manchester is a city in the north-west of England, situated in a bowl

shaped land area. The city centre is located on the River Irwell.

Planning for a vacation in Manchester is a great idea. Manchester is

one of the largest cities of England and contains a rich cultural and

traditional values, worth to see and feel. Great places to see, enjoy

and stay make Manchester a city for tourists? place of interest.

History

The Manchester area was settled in Roman times: General Agricola called

a fort he set up there Mamucium, meaning ‘breast-shaped hill.’ A

facsimile of a Roman fort exists in Castlefield, in the city centre.

Manchester remained a small market town until the Industrial

Revolution, beginning in the 18th century. Its damp climate was ideal

for cotton processing and with the development of steam-powered engines

for spinning and weaving, the cotton industry quickly developed

throughout the region. Manchester quickly grew into the most important

industrial centre in the world. In 1838 Manchester, like many of the

largest towns during this period, was incorporated as a municipal

borough. City status for the borough was conferred in 1853.

Recent history

In 15t June 1996 criminals (PIRA) attacked the City Centre and the

consequent reconstruction spurred a massive regeneration of the city

centre, with complexes such as the Printworks and the Triangle creating

new city focal points for both shopping and entertainment. Since the

regeneration after the 1996 PIRA attack and leading up to the XVII

Commonwealth Games Manchester has changed significantly. Old 1960s

focal points in the city centre were torn down in favour of a new more

modern, up market look. Some areas, like Hulme, have undergone

extensive regeneration programs and many million-pound lofthouse

apartments have since been developed to cater for its growing business

class community.

EPL Team Profile – Aston Villa

The formal name of the club is Aston Villa Football club, or Aston Villa FC.

The squad is ordinarily referred to as Villa, or the Villa, the Villans, or by the nickname of the Lions.

Founded in 1874, the team was one of the pioneers of the Football league in 1888 and the Premier League in 1992.

The team is registered in Lancashire, England; its address is 4th Floor, Ashworth House, Manchester Road, Burnley, Lancs BB11 1TT.

The home venue of the club is Villa Park, which has a capacity in excess of 42,000. The owner of the club is Randy Lerner, and the club currently has a caretaker manager, Macdonald, in the absence of Martin O’Neill who resigned about two weeks ago.

The Villans have European Cup and FA Cup victories to their credit, but no Premier League title. Last season, Aston Villa finished sixth on the league table, their third successive finish at that position.

The squad comprises the following players: Friedel, Luke Young, Clark, Dunne, Warnock, Downing, Albrighton, Petrov, Milner, Ashley Young, Carew, Guzan, Heskey, Reo-Coker, Beye, Weimann, Lichaj, and Bannan.

Villa are looking to sign up Spurs men, David Bentley and Robbie Keane, moves initiated during O’Neill’s tenure.

Their opening match in EPL 2010-11 set to rest misgivings about any ill-effect the absence of O’Neill might have on the clkub’s performance. A bravura performance on the day saw the club thrash West Ham, 3-0, on August 14.

    Pre-season Preview:

Aston Villa have just ended a summer of intrigue, ahead of the Premier league season. James Milner and Ashley Young have flown, and so has Martin O’Neill.

The team is yet to find O’Neill’s successor. However, the team remain buoyant in the absence of their erstwhile manager, if the performance against West Ham is evidence to go by.

Milner crowned his departure from the team with a goodbye goal. He played an important role in Villa’s last season when the sqaud achieved their second best points tally, ever, at the Premiership.

Barring a solitary mistake in the League cup final, Richard Dunne was the pillar on which Villa built their edifice, last season.

And especially in Martin Laursen’s absence, Villa’s reliance on Dunne, in defence, will only increase, in the current season. Dunne is leadership material and could skipper the team in the foreseeable future.

Nathan Delfouneso displayed brilliance in patches, and he was a player that Martin O’Neill saw as a bright star of the current season.

Wilfred Bouma and Marlon Harewood’s contracts have expired, and both are free agents. West Brom have taken Nicky Shorey, and Manchester City have snared Milner. Stephen Ireland will step in for Milner.

A top four spot is Villa’s avowed aim but the club might have to settle for a mid-table finish. A top six spot can be considered over-achievement.

For any clarity as to the direction the team will go this season, Villa must decide on a new manager, and soon.

Premier League Super Match Time: Chelsea Vs Man United

It’s super match time at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea raring to host Man United in match week 18, on Sunday, December 19.

Chelsea lost 3-1 in the traditional season opener when they met the Red Devils in the Community shield final at Wembley on August 8. On the back of that result, there was much speculation about how the league season would unfold.

Before that game, United were talked about as a team over-reliant on Wayne Rooney who hadn’t scored a goal since March. Additionally, Rooney’s poor form at the World Cup in South Africa did not augur well for Sir Alex’s charges.

Berbatov and Nani had proved inadequate replacements for the departing Ronaldo and Tevez, in the 2009-10 season, when the Old Trafford squad had fallen a point short of the title, riding on Rooney’s prolific form during the season.

United’s win in the Community Shield final was fuelled by second half substitutes Berbatov and Nani combining brilliantly up front, and was augmented by new signings in Valencia and Hernandez, and an ageing Scholes, who belied his years with some spectacular passing.

Van der Sar was safe as ever between the posts; Vidic and Evans were solid in defence. Rooney who only played in the first half was quiet, apart from a brilliant squared pass to Valencia off an aerial ball from Scholes, that set up Valencia’s goal. Carrick kept it simply with short effective passes, while Park and Owen had quiet games without much energy on display.

While Hernandez’s goal-scoring ability was highlighted, when he netted United’s second of the match, it was Valencia who was outstanding on the day with his runs down the right flank. Cole was simply unable to handle the Ecuadorian’s pace and guile.

In Cech’s absence, Hilario did duty between the posts, for Chelsea. He was let down by the back four with Terry appearing not to have shaken of the ghosts of the World Cup. Though Ivanovic and Ferreira were efficient without being brilliant, they were exposed to dangerous crosses following Cole’s inability to close the spaces on Chelsea’s left flank.

Lampard, in deep midfield, like Terry, appeared to be still in the throes of his World Cup hangover, while Mikel who partnered him did not do enough to close down the space in the rivals’ midfield.

Kalou was the lone bright spot with brilliant runs and dribbles but suffered for lack of support from his attacking partners. Anelka appeared unconnected and did not pose any threat to the United goal. Malouda showed glimpses of his potential but like Kalou sought support that he did not get.

Drogba fresh from his surgery that kept him out of much of the World Cup was a shadow of his self as he came on as a second-half substitute, while Sturridge and Benayoun did not have sufficient scope to display their prowess, in brief second-half cameos.

Much proverbial water has flowed under the Premier League bridge since the Wembley game that broke a run of three successive defeats for the Red Devils against the Blues.

Chelsea began their season brilliantly with back to back 6-0 wins, albeit against much weaker opponents in West Brom and Wigan. they followed that up with wins over Stoke, West Ham and Blackpool, and after five match weeks appeared to be running away with the league title, even as arch-rivals Man United recorded a couple of away draws against Fulham and Everton, sandwiched by home wins against Newcastle, West Ham and Liverpool, in their first five games.

Away losses to Man City and Aston Villa on either side of a home win against Arsenal, reduced Blues’ momentum somewhat, but they stayed at the top of the table, even as Bolton, Sunderland and West Brom snatched a point each from the Red Devils in their next three games.

The Old Trafford squad began to regain their stride with back to back wins in their ninth and tenth games against Wolves and Blackburn; United won their ninth and tenth against Stoke and Tottenham to keep the Old Trafford hat in the ring.

The next games took the steam out of Chelsea’s campaign, with three losses to Liverpool, Sunderland and Birmingham, and two draws to Newcastle and Everton. With just the solitary win in this span, against Fulham, Ancelotti’s squad were suddenly third in the points table after heading it for 15 weeks.

Meanwhile, Manchester United recorded wins against Wolves, Wigan and Blackburn, alongside draws against Man City and Aston Villa in their games from 11 to 15. With match 16 against Blackpool called off owing to inclement weather, United are sitting pretty, just a point behind new table toppers Arsenal.

A look at the last nine league games between Chelsea and United makes interesting reading. Chelsea have enjoyed an overwhleming dominance over the Red Devils during this span, with five wins and just the solitary loss.

chelsea’s home record this season has been excellent, winning six of eight games hosted, while losing just the one and drawing the remaining one.

United’s away record has not been very good in terms of matches won; on the road, Sir Alex’s squad have won just a single game, while drawing six.

Both sides should go with a full-strength eleven on December 19. Chelsea will welcome Lampard’s return to the fray, and that should give the Blues the stability they currently lack in midfield.

Chelsea’s probable starting eleven: Cech, Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole, Essien, Lampard, Malouda, Kalou, Drogba and Anelka.

Man United’s probable starting eleven: Van der Sar, Da Silva, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Park, Berbatov and Rooney

How Will Arsenal Fare in The New EPL Season?

It is almost universally accepted that they play the most expansive and attractive brand of football in the English Premier League. Yet, they have now gone five years without winning a single trophy – that despite the promise from manager Arsene Wenger that his team were ready to win a major trophy last season. The faithful fans await that day when there will be an addition to the Gunners’ trophy cabinet.

Critics will say that Arsenal have now pretty much officially gone into reverse as a team, and certainly as a major force in the English premier league since 2005. That was the last year the Gunners finished in the top two of the premiership even though they were 12 points behind the then champions – Chelsea. Since then they have basically flattered to deceive as genuine title contenders. Over that period, they finished 4th in 2006, 4th in 2007, 3rd in 2008, 4th in 2009, and 3rd in 2010.

As most fans know all too well, winning the English premier league is a tough challenge and it has certainly got tougher in the time since the Gunners last won the league. In that time, although Manchester United have won the league there times and Chelsea twice, a number of newbies have emerged to challenge the orthodoxy.

Enter Old Trafford’s noisy neighbours from Manchester City and the Gunners’ very own neighbours from hell, Spurs. Tottenham have moved from journey men in to a serious outfit under the management of Harry Redknapp who seems to be enjoying the chance to manage a club with big ambitions and relatively deep pockets.

Fancy footwork only goes so far. What Arsenal need is not a flashy striker but some semblance of backbone running through the team. A solid midfielder who can hold the forte while others around him such as Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri surge forward is much needed and the available option simply don’t cut it at the highest level. Memories of Rooney and Ronaldo and then Rooney and Nani running rings around the arsenal midfield and defense in subsequent Champions League semi-finals still haunt the Emirate faithful. Alexander Hleb, a former Arsenal midfielder recently joined Birmingham City football club on loan for the season. His old team could probably use his services even more.

Arsenal’s squad for the new season consists of the following players: Manuel Almunia, Andrey Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner, Marouane Chamakh, Gael Clichy, Pereka Neves Denilson, Vassiriki Abou Diaby, Johan Danon Djourou-Gbadjere, Emmanuel Eboue, Lukasz Fabianski, Cesc Fabregas, Laurent Koscielny, Vito Mannone, Samir Nasri, Tomas Rosicky, Bacary Sagna, Bilong Song, Dimitri Alexandre, Robin Van Persie, Thomas Vermaelen, Sebastien Squillaci.

How To Make Easy Money Betting on Soccer and Other Sports Online

There is no limit to how much money you can make in online Sports Betting. Just how successful you become will depend entirely on your own little efforts.

OK! You may be one those people who loses lots of money regularly on sports betting. I’ve been there many times and from my experience it hurts so much to lose money. After many trials and errors, I stumbled upon the Key to successful betting. Am about to reveal to you this lucrative online business as the easiest and cheapest investment ever on the internet.

    Sports Betting

For those just starting out. Sports betting is all about betting against bookmakers. It is quite different from betting against other people the way most people do. It is also different from pools betting. Bookmakers are betting companies that provide the platform for betting activities. They also provide the prices and expected winnings on each football match.

All you need to do is to determine the outcome of a particular match or a series of matches. You don’t need to predict the exact score line. Though there are bets where you can predict the exact score line. The price per match will be determined by how hard or difficult it is. The easier the match, the lesser the potential returns. The harder the match, the higher the potential returns.

Let use soccer (football) for illustration:

Assuming TEAM-A on top of the league table wants to play TEAM-B who are at the bottom and out of form at home, we all know there is a very high likelihood that TEAM-A would win if in good form plus all the advantages to their side. The money you are expected to win if you bet TEAM-A will beat TEAM-B will be very small in fact.

On the other hand, if you say TEAM-B will beat TEAM-A, then the expected monetary returns would be high. It will be high as well if you say it will end in a draw.

    Okay. Let’s move on.

Predicting that TEAM-B, the under-dog will beat TEAM-A, the odds could be 4/1. That means that if you bet with $1 you will win $4 plus your initial $1 which makes your total earnings $5. I’ve used US dollars above as an example. Most bookies operate in Pound Sterling, dollars and Euro. So if you want to bet on it, what would you do? Start analyzing and seeing possibilities.TEAM-A to win at 2/7 simply means to win $2 you have to play with $7. You need to ask yourself is it worth risking $7 to win $2? Or will you back the weaker TEAM-B to win at 4/1? You only need to put in $1 to win an extra $4. But will TEAM-B beat the stronger TEAM-A at home? The greater the risk the greater the potential returns, the lesser the risk the lesser the potential returns. That is where your football mind and knowledge is needed.

Let’s Understand Prices/Odds more using real soccer teams for example.

Take a look at this match in the fixture and price. Lets say Chelsea F.C. to beat Manchester City at home is priced at 2/5. That is you bet with $5 to win $2. That is a total expected returns of $7.

(Always remember that the figure at the end is what you stake with and the one in front is what you will win)

The match is 11/4 for a draw and 6/1 for an away win for Manchester City. It means 1/1. You play with $1; you win an additional $1. You play with $100 you win an additional $100.

    Other Kinds of Odds…

Not all odds are written in fractions. As in not written like 3/1, 1/5, 4/9 and so on. Some odds are written in decimals like 1.35, 2.42 etc. If you see 2.42, it simply means if you bet with one dollar, you will earn return of 2.42 dollars. Whatever figure is shown, it means that it is what will be returned if you place $1. So you can calculate your expected earnings according to what you want to bet on.

There are also the American Odds presented in form -110,+220,etc. The Decimal odds seem to be by far the easiest to calculate. The bookies (bookmakers) can determine what kind of odds they will be using. Actually some bookmakers allow you to choose the odd type that suits you. Whatever Odd you use the result is the Same. However, chose only Odd type you are comfortable with.

    Bet Types

There are many types of bet provided by Sport books to suit your needs. The basic bet types are the 1X2 (three outcomes, Home Draw Away), the 12 (only two outcomes, Win or lose), the 1X, 2X (Win or Draw), Not Draw. Other extended betting types are Number of goals, Half/Full Time result, Odd/Even number of goals, Asian Handicap, Live or in-play betting option, exact score line, etc. While sports like boxing, tennis, etc have fewer basic betting options, soccer has the most betting option.

It’s very easy alright making unlimited cash betting on sports online. Now you are thinking: if it were so easy how come people lose money at all? Answer! Is most of the time you do guess-work; try-your-luck, inadequate or no information, etc.

But that’s no good business or investment doing guess-work. You know what it is? It’s called gambling. An investment mind-set is a vital ingredient to make money in Sports betting backed by good knowledge. To be successful punter making tons of dollars on sports betting you need reliable, tested and proven information, systems and strategies to guarantee profits and high returns.

    Why you need reliable information.

Ever seen even the strongest teams on top of a league lose to under-dogs at the bottom of league table? Causing bettors to lose lots of money? Why for instance should a team like?Manchester United lose to black even when they have over 90% chance of winning? It hurts a lot lose this kind of bet.Yeah it happens. 99% of all soccer punters (bettors) THINK they know who will win the game and which team will go over or under the total and end losing almost all their bets and a lot of money, which leaves 1%. Those 1% are professionals that make a living betting on soccer and other sports.

Why? It’s because there some secrets in Sports betting that can only be unlocked with the right kind of information that gives knowledge. This is not knowledge of how the games is played but knowledge of how to make money betting on games played.

Knowledge is power in a general sense is but in sports betting the knowledge is money.

Yes, you need a system that works most times to become an investor making lot of money on sports betting. Sports betting should be seen as an investment, that way you make money most of the time. Though fun in sports betting cannot be left out for those who have passion for the games, the passion can be converted into lots of cash using proven betting systems and strategy. Football (soccer) has most systems and strategies because it offers more betting options than any other sports.

    How to Make the Money.

One way, is to do it yourself by applying proven systems and strategies. Another is to get others to work for you through professional Tips service. However there are free and paid professional Tips service to give you betting clues and predictions.

The SECRET of this lucrative online business is information. With the right information you are sure to become super RICH from this easiest and cheapest investment online anyone from 18 years old can make. That is the legal age for gambling in most countries that regulate top Rated Sport books or Bookmakers. Some reputable sports books require IDs to confirm the age compliance among other things.
