A Tale Of 2 Football Cities

It has been a season to forget for both teams with only domestic cup success to show for a miserable season that might turn out to be real disasters for both teams.

With the players that both teams possess most especially Valencia it is incredible that they are in this kind of position but after watching them last night against Bilbao, it seemed that some of the players were not interested and also manager Ronald Koeman continues to make disastrous decisions.

His starting 11 left a lot to be desired as he decided to leave Ever Banega, Fernando Morientes, Joachim on then bench whilst playing Carlos Marchena in midfield and persisting with Arizmendi and Hedwiges Maduro.

Quite what has become of PSG is indeed baffling as most people thought they would get over their recent funk with the appointment of Paul Le Guen but as it turns out the heady days of being Lyon manager are long gone and the more confusing mismanagement style we saw at Glasgow Rangers is the Le Guen that has come to the fore.

It has been nothing short of disastrous for both Le Guen and PSG as their chronic lack of goal scoring and incoherent displays have dogged them all season in the league but remarkably not in cup competitions.

As for Koeman, he came into a volatile situation with an internal tug-of-war between some of the top players Miguel Angulo, David Albelda and Santiago Canizares against management with Koeman asked to not only drop the 3 players but to disassociate them from the club completely.

This understandably did not go down well with everyone and the squad seems to be divided. What seems to be apparent is that the players feel they cannot be relegated and as long as they are not mathematically relegated, they would not try very hard for the manager as it seems they are capable of raising their game when they want to like the recent victory at Real Madrid in the league and the triumph in the cup showed where they defeated Barcelona along the way where they beat Getafe by 3-1 just last Wednesday.

They say no side is too good to go down and Paris St Germain as well as Valencia are about to find out if they are not extremely careful.

UEFA Champions League Draw – Arsenal vs AS Roma

So, the Champions League draw have been made, and I have to admit one of the most anticipated matches is Inter vs Man Utd. Italian champions vs English champions. I’m an Arsenal fan, so I’m rather happy about it. Man Utd think they are the best, well eat this! Let’s see how you get past Inter.

But there is another fixture I’m very much looking forward to. Roma vs Arsenal. Why? Both are my favourite teams, and they are 2 very similar clubs. Mirror image in other words.

Firstly, both clubs are having some financial problem. Which is the reason why both clubs doesn’t spend big. Look at the players Arsenal and Roma have signed in the past few seasons: While big stars like Cristian Chivu left, instead of getting a big money replacement Luciano Spalleti got Juan for a mere 6.3 million euros. When the legend of Arsenal, Thierry Henry left, many people was thinking whether his replacement could lived up to expectations. Arsene Wenger chose to fork out only 8 million to sign Eduardo Da Silva, and although he’s injured at the moment, his future looks bright.

Secondly, both clubs have been praised for their brilliant attacking football. Arsenal was believed to have played the best football ever seen in England during their Invincibles’ season (2003/04), and up till today they do just that. Roma have been praised by pundits for playing exciting, attacking football since Luciano Spalleti took over and deployed the 4-5-1 formation. Normally in football it’s the beauty vs the beast, but I believe in this match, both clubs will be known as the beauties and will be fighting their asses off.

Lastly, both clubs have their own star talisman of the team. Francesco Totti have always been associated with AS Roma, and up till today the fans still worship him. Francesc Fabregas, although only 21 years of age, has been one of the most popular players in Arsenal at the moment, and seeing how similar both players’ style of play are, it’s certainly a battle of the golden boys. However years ago this could be even more intense, when Thierry Henry was still at Arsenal. I’m sure about 4 years ago everybody wanted to see the 2 best strikers at their peak facing each other on the football field. What a match it would be.

A Football Genius – Robert Prosinecki

If you’re a footy fan you’ve probably heard of this legendary midfielder, former member of Croatian national team. Robert Prosinecki was born in 1969. in Germany’s Schwenningen, where his parents were working. He came in Croatia at early age and started playing for Dinamo Zagreb, but coach Miroslav Blazevic dismissed him saying his (in)famous sentence: ‘If this lad becomes a real football player, I’ll eat my coaching diploma.’

I’m not sure if his diploma still remained in one piece, but Robert Prosinecki then signed for Red Star Belgrade and made his debut in young national team of Yugoslavia. In fact, in 1987. Robi or Zuti (‘the yellow one’, due to his blonde hair) came to the world’s attention at the World Youth Championship in Chile where he was named player of the tournament!

Who would thought this midfielder would become the only player in World Cup history to score for two different national teams? In Italy 1990, Prosinecki scored one goal for Yugoslavia in a group match against United Arab Emirates. As Yugoslavia fell apart soon after that, Robi became prominent member of Croatian national team. Eight years later, during FIFA World Cup finals in France he scored 2 goals, in a group match against Jamaica and in the third place match against the Netherlands. The second goal included his famous technique, that fooled opponent players completely.

Croatia won third place that year (with striker Davor Suker as Golden Boot winner), but among many Croats there’s a still regret for what might have happened if only coach Blazevic didn’t leave Robert Prosinecki on a bench during semi-final match against France, which Croatia lost 1:2.

However, the 3rd place in a World Cup will forever remain the crown of his career, but let’s not forget he also won European Cup with Red Star Belgrade in 1991., and played for Spain’s big two clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona. In Portsmouth, where he played only in season 2001/2002., Robert is even now held as a hero and his nickname was ‘Croatian Magician’.

I met this football genius about 10 years ago, you never guess where – at the art gallery! No, he didn’t become a painter, but he opened exhibition of painting as a special guest. Calm and down-to-earth, he gave autographs afterwards and took pictures with his fans.

Robert Prosinecki ended his playing career in 2004., but his famous dribblings, passes and goals are already part of greatest moments in football history.

VR| stYpe StypeKit | Planet Sport UEFA Champions League

Tuesday night, a big UEFA Champions League match show in your studio.
You have 1 cameraman, and 2 PTZ heads to operate.
Problem? Nope. You’re using stYpe #RemoteHeads which are easily controlled with a joystick. 🙂

VPK Pro chose to spice up the coverage of the biggest club football event in the world by adding #Virtual effects.
To do so, they decided on a #HumanCrane with the tracking by #StypeKit and added 2 stYpe remote heads to their arsenal. 2 people needed to operate these 3 systems.
The rendering side was handled by Vizrt.

If you have a regular crane in your studio and want to add Virtual effects to your shows, the #StypeKit might be the ideal solution, as it attaches to your crane and provides accurate tracking data, as well as the cool additional feature of #AutomaticAiming. 🙂

Best Football Teams In Bulgaria

Football is religion for this small country. Throughout its communist times, the Bulgarian nation managed to preserve its nationality and freedom exactly through supporting the country’s favourite football club – Levski Sofia named after the apostle of Bulgarian freedom from Ottoman rule, established in 1914. Known under many different names throughout the years, broken down and dissolved in an attempt to subdue the enthusiasm and empower the communist motto «If you’re not with us, you are against us» and stomp on the basic human rights to support a team they love, Levski Sofia football club has managed to perservere and come out on top in today’s society. It has won 26 Bulgarian Championship titles, only beaten by its rival CSKA Sofia. Famous football icons such as Gundi and Gonzo who played internationally have captained the team and have taken it to worldwide fame. Gerena stadium is the main stadium of Levski Stadium with capacity of 19,000.

The other mostly supported Bulgarian team is CSKA Sofia. Its history is a little different to Levski’s as they were the Army’s team in the past – supported by the government in power and managed by the very same. Considering they have won 31 title in the shorter history, founded in 1934, it is only fair to consider the fact that during communist times they were pushed to victories in order to maintain the control of the governing party by proving to the ordinary citizen that the leading party is the almighty powerful tool that is to lead them. If we put that aside, CSKA has provided one of the top quality footballers on a worldwide level, including Hristo Stoichkov and Dimitar Berbatov, one playing for Barcelona, reaching 4th place with Bulgarian national team and winning the Golden Ball award and the other playing for top clubs like Tottenham, Manchester United and Monaco and winning the Champions League, respectively. CSKA Sofia has a great academy for youngsters and is known to promote young footballers and develop them to become great professionals.

The most famous, risen to infamousy football club recently is Ludogoretz. It’s owner is Kiril Domuschiev, a wealthy businessman that funds the club and supplies it with a budget nearly 5 times as large as the second to it in terms of finance. Their main strategy is to acquire footballers from abroad, primarily African regions and Brazil and use them to dominate in the local championship. Results speak for themselves, Ludogoretz has been a champion for the past 4 years since it emerged in the Group A of the Bulgarian football league. They played in the Champions League groups last year narrowly losing to Liverpool and Real Madrid and beating Basel on home turf. The team resembles Manchester City and Real Madrid in terms of management and is the top club in Bulgaria at the moment.
