Didn't explain league sorting rules. I had a team with the same points but more GD than a team but were placed below in the table overall. How is that? I never played them so there wasn't a head to head result.

In real life, the fixtures won't be like that. They will adopt the swiss model

So the reward for finishing in the top 8 is being the away side for the Round-of-16 knockout. That's hardly a "reward" for doing well in the league phase. Ironically, if you finish between 17th – 24th during the league phase, you play at home in the first knockout round and if you win that, you then play at home again, against one of clubs who finished among the top 8 in the league phase. Might make sense to not try to win all your 8 games during the league phase.
Ok that actually makes sense now. Didn't realise it was a pot system which essentially is like a group system but in one league. Could be good.
